Dear Colleague,

On behalf of the Advisory Board, I am pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the Third International Conference on the Image and the Call for Submissions for Artistic Work and to the peer-reviewed International Journal of the Image.

14-16 September 2012
Higher School of Humanities and Journalism Poznan, Poland

The Image Conference is a forum at which participants interrogate the nature and functions of image-making and images. The conference has a cross-disciplinary focus, bringing together researchers, teachers and practitioners from areas of interest related to The Image. Organized in collaboration with the 2012 MEDIATIONS BIENNALE, The Image Conference will address The Thread to the Unknown – shedding light on the boundaries of language, culture, scientific research, artistic production, and visual communication in relation to the Unknown. The conference encompasses participation in Biennale Special Events including the opening reception, a Biennale Day featuring curators Tomasz Wendland, Fumio Nanjo, Denise Carvalho, and Friedhelm Mennekes, as well as the opportunity to submit artistic work for consideration in a Special Exhibition at the Polish Mediations Biennale.

Plenary speakers include:

* Jasia Reichardt, Writer and Exhibition Organizer, London, UK
* Miha Tursic, Industrial and Digital Designer, Ljubljana, Slovenia
* Tomasz Wendland, Chairman of Mediations Biennale, Poznan, Poland
* Dragan Zivadinov, Theater and Post-Gravitational Production, Ljubljana, Slovenia

In addition to plenary speakers, proposals for paper presentations, workshops, or colloquia are invited. The deadline for submissions to the conference call for papers (a title and short abstract) is 20 August 2012. Full details of the conference, including an online proposal submission form, may be found on the conference website.

Presenters may choose to submit written papers for publication in the fully refereed International Journal of the Image. If you are unable to attend the conference in person, virtual registrations are also available, which allows participants to submit papers for refereeing and possible publication and includes a complimentary subscription to the journal.
