At the lecture you will learn why the price of Coca Cola (frequently called “the Real Thing” in the United States) remained fixed at 5 cents (a nickel) for more than 70 years in the USA, despite Coca Cola Company having a monopoly power over the secret formula of their syrup. The lecture will also present several other interesting facts about Coca Cola, including, drink’s contribution to the victory of the Allies in the Second World War, how Santa was an invention of Cola, and how Nikita Khrushchev secretly drank the soft drink.

The Department of Political Science and Public Management at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense offers a number of PhD scholarships as of September 1, 2013 or as agreed. The fellowship carries a 45,000 euros yearly salary (5+3) plus office facilities and financial support for conference travels and overseas research visits.
These positions are available from October 1st 2013 for three years (subject to satisfactory progress reviews after 12 and 24 months).
The DAAD-funded International PhD Program Transnational at the Faculty of Social Sciences is now accepting applications for the winter term 2013. The program offers a structured, three-year period of research at a high academic level to graduates of sociology, political science, and anthropology. PhD candidates will profit from an intellectually stimulating and supporting infrastructure that includes special counseling, intense academic supervision, and participation in the “Forum Transnational” with international visiting scholars as well as methods and theory workshops tailored to the needs of the participants. In addition, doctoral candidates will receive support in applying for scholarships and in career planning.
